Please provide your Comment: Thank you for providing this wonderfully historic website that is regularly updated and thorough in content! I congratulate the Montford Point Marines for their valor, contributions, and overall efforts wtih the award of the Congressional Gold Medal. This prestigious honor is long overdue and highly deserving. Thanks to the members of US Congress for their support and interest in these heroes of WWII who fought in defense of our country and who were trailblazers for all other black American soldiers in the US Miliary. I salute the original Montford Point Marines, as my father is an OMPM, Averitte W. Corley, and a Hall of Fame member. I am proud of his and his comrades contributions in WWII. Thanks again to the members of MPMA for their efforts in developing this website and maintaining the information and education of this enriching history. Semper Fi

Please provide your Comment: My father Corporal Albert Montgomery passed away on January 2000. He enlisted as a Montford Point Marine in 1948. He was honorably discharged in 1952 after serving in the Korean War. He retired after 32 years of federal Government service. At 58 years old I am still learning who my father was. He was always at work or at home, but he never talked much about his foreign service or his military career. As a retired Firefighter/Medical Technician with 25 years of service with the District of Columbia Fire/Emergency Medical Services, I can truly say that if it were not for my father and all the first African American Marines, my career would not have been possible. As next of kin (son) I am very much interested in acquiring the congressional medal of honor on his behalf as well as donating an artist depiction of him in uniform at age 19 in 1948 to the museum. email me at
albertmontgomeryjr@yahoo.com or call 301-248-9712. I would also like advice on a memorial service for my father. He was not buried with military honors at his death due to religious wishes of my mother at the time.

Please provide your Comment: Good looking website with great & extensive info.
The awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal, along with the Marine Corps Commandant's "official" recognition efforts of the MPMA should bring some great exposure.
Unless I missed it, I don't see any reference to the various MPMA chapters. I'd encourage you to add this info to your website.
Thanks and "Congratulations"!

Please provide your Comment: My father Arthur Person Yarborough was one of the Montford Point Marines. He served from June 1942 to December 1945, and was discharged as a Corporal, honorably, from the Second Casual Co, HqBn, Montford Point Camp. He later enlisted in the Army, and retired 20 years later, as a Major. He passed in 1997 at the age of 73. I'm so proud of my father's service and sacrifice, and just wish I'd known more about it when he was living. I know he would have been so proud to have received the Congressional Medal of Honor, which was recently bestowed upon the MPMs. Like many, I'm wondering if the family members of those who have gone on will be receiving their medals posthumously?

Please provide your Comment: I served in the U.S. Marine corps from 1966 to 1968. As I have read the articles with regard to the "Monford Point Marines" I never recall being taught about this chapter in our courages history.I fought along side black Marines in Vietnam, in that era there was NO white or Black there was just MARINES. I am happy to see what was wrong has finaly been righted.I am proud of our Corps for finnaly making us all one Corps. I never looked to see if there was anything different about a person in our uniform I just saw a U.S. Marine, whose blood was the same color his determination to be the best was the same as mine, and his death was that of a family member of mine. I salute ALL who have suffered this feeling of difference and not the bond of a true brotherhood in our Corps. To all of you I am proud to say welcome home Marine and "SEMPER FI" Thank You for making our Corps a better place.

Your Comment of Our site is welcomed I run a veterans program for VITAS hospice in Palm Beach County Florida. I just read about you in a WWII book that I am reading. WOW! I wanted to reach out and thank you for your service and sacrifice to our country in the face of the discrimination that you faced. I think that it was hard enough to do what you did and then to add on discrimination on top of it is disgraceful. I am sorry for how you were treated and I am thankful that you stood up for our country in its time of need. We make a big deal about our veterans at Vitas. I will be educating many about you and do what I can to preserve your legacy. If there are any Montford Pointers in Palm Beach County Florida, I would love the opportunity to meet with them. I would love to have any of them speak at an event to educate the community. Thank you again, although thank you is not enough. I will do my part to preserve your legacy. Your Comment of Our site is welcomed Today Sugar Creek Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia hosted a golf tournament for the Montford Point Marine Association, Inc.. This was a most wonderful experience for the staff of Sugar Creek. We host a Jr. Golf Tournament for several young golfers in the metropolitan Atlanta area and today, July 27 2011 the Montford Point Marine Association, Inc. came through like no other organization by simply giving from their hearts to help support these youth. We are overwhelmed at the generous acts of kindness demonstrated by this group.
The National President Mr. James T. Averhart, Jr was instrumental in getting the ball rolling and the group did not hesitate to answer the call.

pbs, ran a series of shows which included "The Marines of Montford Point". I had an uncle that was a SGT. in The United States Army, during these very same time periods, he fought in Korea. He was subjected to the same racial prejudice within his branch as was the Marines of your Branch. He had to endure. He was one hell of a Black Warrior/Black Man/Black Human Being.

Your Comment of Our site is welcomed Marines,
I have been researching the "Monford Point" training base, because of "misinformation" I received while serving in the usmc (1967-71).Two of my drill instructors were black and also my "troop handler" at Camp Gieger. Perhaps 30%-40% of my platoon were black. It never occured to me that things were not always this way? When I did here the name "Monford Point", it was described very casually as place where blacks were trained during segregation . Now, you have provided me with the full history. I salute you for overcoming this racial flaw . How could the Marine Corps claim to be the "finest" fighting force the world has ever known, without the courage of the historic black Marines who have served? Semper Fidelis'
